Integrating Bookflix with Literacy Instruction
Wikis for the C3 - Connections, Collaborations and Conversations
This workshop will provide primary teachers with an overview of Bookflix and the ways it can be used to enhance English language arts instruction. Bookflix is an online database of paired fiction and nonfiction ebooks for elementary students. The district subscribes to Bookflix via BOCES. Participants will learn the technical requirements needed to set up Bookflix for whole group, small group, and individual instruction.

This workshop will be less about Wikis themselves and more about the educators behind them. Participants will learn how to create wikis (websites that anybody can contribute to) to motivate students to learn more deeply and actively contribute to classroom learning. By the end of this session, participants will have set up their own wiki and designated who will have access to use it.

Visuals to Support Student Learning Workshop
Autism Awareness for the 21st Century
Approximately 65% of the population consists of visual learners. This workshop will explore how visuals can support your students in their learning and independence. The session will include time for teachers to get hands on experience.

Participants will learn about the Autism Spectrum, its prevalence, and how they can be more educated and empathic about what can cause student behaviors that appear "defiant." They will also be exposed to actual "Aspie" articles (first person narratives) that illustrate classroom difficulties from their perspective. Finally, they will explore creating classroom blogs to enable students who struggle with peer group work in a face-to-face setting to do more successful peer conferencing.

Digital Story Telling
Connecting with Teachers around the World
This workshop will consist of two parts. The first will prepare participants to create a Digital story. They will receive ideas, handouts and suggestions. The second part will consist of hands-on practice making a Digital story. Participants will learn how to use Boardmaker to make literacy and language-based activities available to students who require adapted instructional materials with a strong visual emphasis. Attendees should bring pictures and ideas to create their Digital story.

This workshop will offer a variety of ways that teachers can contact and construct connections with teachers, both next door and around the world. The workshop will include information on "teacher-secure" e-mailing, audio and video conferencing, package exchanges, art and peace flag projects, website construction and news broadcasting.

Fundamental Elements of Curriculum Mapping in Rubicon Atlas
Prentice Hall Online Resources for Middle School Math
The online Rubicon Atlas program for curriculum mapping will be the focus of this workshop. Participants will learn the answer to the question "why map?" by examining various tools within Atlas and learning fundamentals of developing quality curriculum maps. Discussion will also include key steps in sustaining the mapping process over time. Additional time will be given on Thursday and Friday to work on individual curriculum maps or with a team on consensus maps

Participants will receive an overview of Prentice Hall technology resources for middle school math programs. This will include training in: Teacher Express, Exam View, online books and PowerPoint. Teachers will register with Prentice Hall and will view the online text and learn how to provide this same service to their students. The workshop will incorporate 21st century learning skills by helping teachers access online tools that will broaden the knowledge base of their students. This will allow the students to explore possibilities beyond what is being taught in the classroom setting.
